| As we are all settling in to a new school year and looking forward to the year ahead, the Board of Directors of Japan ASCD would like to take this time to welcome you back as we continue to build on our mission to serve a diverse educational community enriching teaching, learning and cross cultural communication. | ||||
| As we work daily to improve the lives within our community and keep our students at the center of all we do, ASCD and Japan ASCD would like to highlight the work of the ASCD Whole Child Initiative beginning with the five tenets that can be used as the core definition of what it means to educate the whole child. | ||||
| Whole Child Tenets | ||||
| • Each student enters school healthy and learns about and practices a healthy lifestyle. | ||||
| • Each student learns in an intellectually challenging environment that is physically and emotionally safe for students and adults. | ||||
| • Each student is actively engaged in learning and is connected to the school and broader community. | ||||
| • Each student has access to personalized learning and is supported by qualified, caring adults. | ||||
| • Each graduate is challenged academically and prepared for success in college or further study and for employment in a global environment. | ||||
| Use the available materials and resources as you are planning your professional learning community discussions, preparing for parent-night, or creating a caring environment for your students. These are all best practices for preparing our students for their future - that can be used today. | ||||
| We would also encourage you to join the fastest growing professional networking community for educators at ASCDEDge where you will be able to network with other educators around the world to share ideas, read blogs, join topic centered groups, and create your own profile. | ||||
| The Japan ASCD Board of Directors is busy planning another year of professional development opportunities and we want to remind you to join us for our 21st Annual Spring Conference to be held on March 2nd and 3rd. Please check our website for updates and upcoming events at www.jascd.org. | ||||
