Inquiry in Science: A constructivist
approach to learning
science
Think you don’t have time to use inquiry or are not sure how to effectively approach inquiry in science, this special event will give you concrete ways to make science more accessible to your students. Through the use of questioning strategies and literature; adapting current resources; and developing performance assessments, Dr. Lorri MacDonald will provide strategies you can use to modify traditional science content to be taught in a constructivist-inquiry method.
*All science educators are welcome as strategies can be adapted for lower elementary.*

Lorri
MacDonald, currently an assistant
professor at University of Detroit
Mercy, teaches Science Methods courses
as well as Introduction to
Administration. She also teaches an
online forensic science course for
Michigan Virtual High School where she
keeps current with the demands of being
a classroom teacher. Both a scientist
and educator, she began her career in
education as a middle and high school
science teacher. From science teacher
to administrator, Dr. MacDonald has
challenged herself professionally
giving her a wide array of experiences
and expertise. With a commitment to the
professional development of educators,
Dr. MacDonald currently serves as a
curriculum developer and researcher for
Detroit Area Pre-College and
Engineering Program (DAPCEP). Dr.
MacDonald’s expertise in the various
aspects of science education makes her
an excellent presenter for the Japan
ASCD teaching community.
