Breathe… Read… Relax…

8am, Saturday, November 22nd. Teachers from various schools in the Tokyo area braved the cold winds of a chilly Tokyo morning to attend the recent Try It on Monday to breathe, read, and relax. The International School of the Sacred Heart very kindly opened their doors to Japan ASCD for teachers to partake in a variety of sessions presented by members of our teaching community. Some took this opportunity to participate in a very insightful and relaxing reflexology session with Noriko Aoyama. Others fine-tuned their reading assessment skills, as well as shared current best practices during the Developmental Reading Assessment sessions with Doug Brittain and Dina Jaramillo. Members also completed the qualification requirements for CPR and AED certification during a rigorous and educational session conducted by Sandy Leipheimer. Participating teachers enjoyed the chance to share ideas and learn from each other. Doug Brittain commented on how he enjoyed catching up with familiar faces as well as making new connections with other members of the Tokyo teaching community.

Japan ASCD would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude to Sandy Leipheimer, Doug Brittain, Dina Jaramillo, and Noriko Aoyama for sharing their expertise and time. We would also like to thank The International School of the Sacred Heart for allowing us to host this week’s Try It On Monday. Finally, we would like to thank the members of the Japan ASCD board who volunteered their Saturday to assist in organizing the event. We at Japan ASCD are looking forward to seeing familiar and new faces at our next Try It On Monday. Check our website at www.jascd.org for further details.
